“Big Black Car” by Gregory Alan Isakov

Man, if there were a song to sum up this year for me – or even my life – it would be “Big Black Car” by Gregory Alan Isakov. Don’t know what the song’s about – I guess love, longing, something like that – but the guitars and the softness of it all are the perfect complement to anxiety and stress – the feeling like my brain is a bunch of moving parts and gears that don’t move together, that instead just crunch and grind against each other, everything resisting everything else.

I’d like to blame the anxiety on school, and that is definitely what I spend my days thinking about — how can I fit such and such activity into such and such timeframe- and how is it possible that yet another day has gone by where I haven’t come close to doing what I set out to do — but I think it runs much deeper than that, to a way of life.

But regardless, calming songs like “Big Black Car” are the perfect balm – like falling into bed with all the covers in just the right place.

You can hear this little gem, along with a whole playlist of great soothing songs, here: http://8tracks.com/jacworb/every-time-i-blink-i-have-a-tiny-dream

Hopefully I haven’t raised your expectations too high.
